Mrs. Latonia D. Staten, the CEO and founder of Carael Group, LLC states, “it’s what we believe about ourselves that dictates what we tell ourselves resulting in a behavior change. If we believe we are not good enough, then we won’t be (at anything) and our behavior will begin to reflect that belief. However, if we change the messages (beliefs) we tell our brains then we start to change our behavior in more positive ways thus creating a life that is renewed and empowered”, which is the message of Carael (Creating A Renewed And Empowered Life). Mrs. Staten has worked in mental health and substance abuse fields for over 10 years. This is how the story of Carael Group, LLC began:
Carael Group was established in 2016. Mrs. Staten, who is a Veteran of the United States Air Force, started the journey of creating Carael Group, LLC many years before. She worked for 10 years as a research technician for various organizations including the National Institutes of Health, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences; while in pursuit of an Associates degree. During her employment as a research technician, Mrs. Staten began to understand how the brain controls, not only our physical, but also the psychological intricacies of our mind. After graduating from Montgomery College with her Associates degree in Biotechnology, Mrs. Staten pursued an interest in neuroscience and began studying at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she secured a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Biology.
After receiving acknowledgements in two scientific journals, she became very dissatisfied with her career as a research technician and pursued a career which was more rewarding and fulfilling. For approximately 15 years, Mrs. Staten worked in the mental health, college communities and substance abuse fields which resulted in obtaining a Certified Associate Counselor credential specializing in Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD). It was at this time when she discovered the significance in overcoming adverse situations and how those adversities create a discrepancy between what’s lived vs. the individual’s potential (what they truly can become). In addition, she realized that what is often overlooked on the individual's treatment plan is compassion, understanding and building trust. To develop a deeper understanding and to gain more knowledge of her field, Mrs. Staten pursued and obtained a Masters of Arts in Counseling from Argosy University and is a Board Certified Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC). All of her pursuits has led her to establish Carael Group, LLC.
Over the years, Mrs. Staten’s expertise has grown exponentially. Currently, she can be found giving seminars and workshops throughout MD, DC and VA in the substance abuse and college communities covering topics such as reducing test anxiety, understanding diversity, drugs of abuse and adjusting to college just to name a few. Mrs. Staten enjoys spending time with her spouse, family and friends. She spends her leisure time gardening, exploring the State of MD, discovering new places to eat and working out. Mrs. Staten believes that “a healthy balance of body and mind creates a safe space to handle difficult challenges”.
